Day one of the 2025 free agency frenzy yesterday is over. The Ottawa Senators signed and lost players in the NHL and AHL.

Players signed on day one:

Olle Lycksell

Lars Eller

Players lost on day one:

Dennis Gilbert

Cole Reinhardt

Anton Forsberg

Matthew Highmore

Adam Gaudette

Angus Crookshank

Even before the frenzy started, the Senators re-signed Nikolas Matinpalo, Tyler Kleven, Fabian Zetterlund, Claude Giroux, Leevi Merilainen and Nick Cousins. Re-signing players who was part of the 2025 playoff team was important to keep for general manager Steve Staios. It's clear that Staios is believing in his core from 2025 deeply.

With day one complete, it's time to see who remains on Ottawa's roster that still isn't signed yet with over $5 million in cap space.

Three players remained unsigned from day one on Ottawa's roster

There are three players on PuckPedia that are unsigned on Ottawa's roster.

Those three players are:

F- Hayden Hodgson

D- Travis Hamonic

D- Donovan Sebrango

For Hodgson at 29 years old, it may only make sense for him to re-sign him and then have him play in the AHL with the Belleville Senators. Hodgson only played in two NHL games in 2024-25, but can be called up in case of injuries.

Hamonic was a liability defensively for the Senators with having the lowest rating on the Senators roster in 2024-25 with a -16 rating. At 34 years old and trading for Jordan Spence from the Los Angeles Kings, it can be unsure if the Senators want to re-sign Hamonic with having seven defensemen on the roster under contract. Eight defensemen might be too much for the NHL roster.

While both Hodgson and Hamonic are unrestricted free agents. Sebrango is the only restricted free agent on Ottawa's roster on PuckPedia.

Sebrango is 23 years old and only played in two NHL games in 2024-25 just like Hodgson. However, potential can still be there for Sebrango because of his age. Sebrango's 20 points in Belleville in 2024-25 were a new career-high for a single season.

Before free agency frenzy, Sebrango received a qualifying offer from the Senators, but news hasn't come out yet whether the offer was accepted or not.

As day two of the free agency frenzy is here, this is the update from the Senators roster on PuckPedia.
