This past weekend, the Ottawa Senators swept their back-to-back with wins against the Philadelphia Flyers and Utah Mammoth. It was then time for the Senators to continue their four-game home stand against the Dallas Stars.

The Senators have fared well against playing the Stars at home for nearly a decade, but the Stars changed their luck tonight with a rallying win.

The Stars defeated the Senators 3-2 in overtime at Canadian Tire Centre. With the loss, the Senators fell to 8-5-4 overall on the season. Tonight was the first time the Stars won in Ottawa since March 6, 2016.

Less than nine minutes into the game, the Senators got off to a hot start. Forty-nine seconds into the game, Drake Batherson scored for a 1-0 lead. Just over eight minutes later, Nick Jensen scored his first goal since Jan. 18, 2025, to extend the lead to 2-0. The Senators led 2-0 heading into the first intermission.

Mikko Rantanen scored the only goal of the second period on a breakaway to beat Linus Ullmark to cut the Senators' lead to 2-1. Eight minutes into the third period, Jason Robertson tied the game at two with a powerplay goal. Robertson's third period goal was enough for overtime to be needed. For the fifth time in six games, overtime would be needed for the Senators.

Both teams had chances to win the game in overtime early. Out of a scramble in front of Ullmark, Roope Hintz scored to win the game with 1:56 remaining in overtime. While he allowed in three goals, Ullmark was strong with making 32 saves against a high-powered Dallas offense.

The Senators did suffer a loss in the lineup during tonight's game. Defenseman Thomas Chabot wouldn't return after the first period due to an upper-body injury. If Chabot is out for some time, it could be a major concern.

In the end, the Senators will take a crucial point against one of the NHL's best. However, having a 2-0 lead and losing isn't always how a team wants to end a hockey game.

The Senators will return to action on Thursday night when they take on the Boston Bruins for the third time this season. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

The Senators won the first meeting against the Bruins in Ottawa on Oct. 27 by a final score of 7-2. In the second meeting five days ago in Boston, the Bruins won 3-2 in overtime thanks to a Pavel Zacha winner in the final seconds.
