Sunday was the Ottawa Senators' third game in a four-day span. After a 3-2 overtime loss against the Bruins on Thursday night, followed by a 3-2 overtime win against the Philadelphia Flyers yesterday, the Utah Mammoth awaited the Senators.

Last season, Ottawa swept the two-game season series against Utah. With a new season to continue success against Utah, the Senators earned another pivotal win.

The Senators defeated the Mammoth 4-2 at Canadian Tire Centre. With the win, the Senators improved to 8-5-3 overall on the season, and have earned six of a possible eight points to start November.

Prior to the game, the Senators called up Hayden Hodgson from the AHL. Hodgson would make his season debut for Ottawa.

The first period saw each team get one goal. Ridly Greig scored on a weird play that saw the Senators get a friendly bounce for Greig to bury. Two seconds after the Senators killed off a Shane Pinto penalty, Clayton Keller beat Leevi Merilainen five-hole off a rebound to tie the game for Utah.

In the second period, a monkey got off the back for one Senator. Even with producing points, Jordan Spence was still getting scratched from the lineup, which was drawing some concern. Against the Mammoth, Spence had his biggest moment as a Senator.

Spence blasted a slapshot past Vitek Vanacek to give the Senators a 2-1 lead 7:13 into the period. It was Spence's first goal as a Senator. Spence received loud cheers when his goal was announced. Over 8.5 minutes later, Nick Cousins extended the lead to 3-1. With 1:04 remaining in the period, Nick Schmaltz cut the deficit to 3-2 for Utah. The Senators led 3-2 heading into the second intermission.

Twenty-two seconds into the third period, Utah appeared to have tied the game when Jack McBain scored, but Travis Green challenged the goal for goaltender interference. Green's challenge was successful, and the score remained 3-2.

Under 3.5 minutes after McBain's goal was taken off the board, Michael Amadio scored for the fourth consecutive game to make it 4-2. Spence recorded an assist on Amadio's goal to record his second multi-point game this season.

Dylan Cozens recorded a two-assist game. Like Spence, Greig also recorded a goal and an assist. Merilainen finished with 29 saves to earn his second consecutive win.

The Senators will return to action on Tuesday night when they continue their four-game home stand against the Dallas Stars. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Last season, the Senators and Stars each earned one regulation win against each other.
