At the 2019 NHL Draft, the Ottawa Senators selected Maxence Guenette with the 187th overall pick in the draft. Since being drafted nearly six years ago, Guenette hasn't seen much NHL experience.
Guenette has only played in eight NHL games in his career and has recorded no points. After plying in just one NHL game in the 2022-23 season, Guenette played in seven games last season.
This season, Guenette has yet to play an NHL game and has spent the entire season in the AHL with the Belleville Senators. After cold stretches from October-February, March has been a much different month for the 23-year-old.
Guenette's hot March was needed for the young defenseman
At the end of February, Guenette had recorded 15 points in 44 games on the season. Now, March has been a solid month for Guenette.
In 10 games in March, Guenette has recorded eight points. Guenette recorded an assist on Tyler Boucher's powerplay goal in Belleville's 2-1 loss yesterday to the Cleveland Monsters.
Since March began, Belleville has seen a big jump in Guenette's game offensively. In six of the 10 games for the month, Guenette recorded at least one point. Guenette recorded two points in a game two times, and it happened on a back-to-back. Guenette has also seen a jump in his goal scoring.
Guenette headed into March with just five goals, now he has scored four goals in March. Guenette was able to score a goal in a game in back-to-back games on two different occasions for the month to add consistency to his game. Guenette now has 23 points in 54 games on the season with his March surge.
Guenette is showing improvement among Belleville's defensemen along with Wyatte Wylie, Hayden Hodgson and Jeremy Davies in March.
Guenette and Belleville will return to action on Wednesday night when they host the Monsters in a rematch from last night at CAA Arena. Puck drop for is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
