A New Superman Called Pavelec: Thrashers 3, Senators 1

AUTHOR: Bobby Zijiac | IN: Senators | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Ottawa has now lost their last 4 of 5 with a loss tonight against the Thrashers. There was excitement in the air, it’s Halloween and black thirds debuted tonight, and they did compete, but were denied 50 times by Ondrej Pavelec. Zach Bogosian, Rich Peverley, and Maxim Afinogenov scroed for the Trash while Mike Fisher replied with his 5th. Carrie Underwood was in the stands for this one wearing a Sens jersey.
To tell you the truth, I didn’t watch a lot of this game but from I saw and heard the Sens were completely dominated by the young Russian goalie [...]

That’s What Happens

AUTHOR: Bobby Zijiac | IN: Senators | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

That’s what happens when your top centre, top defenseman, and top goalie are out of the game—you lose. In this case the Sens lost mightily to the Bolts. After an inspiring win in Sunrise Ottawa was found napping all night long and Tampa took advantage of that. There are still things Clouston needs to work on, but it simply is not the time to panic. When reading some of the blogs out there, I can’t believe so many fans are becoming pessimists now. A lucky loss to Nashville, and blown MINUTE to the Bruins, and a loss to Tampa where [...]

Gameday #10: Senators @ Panthers

AUTHOR: Bobby Zijiac | IN: Game Days | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Otawa Senators head to the Sunshine State for some revenge on the Cats. After losing last season’s series 3-1, Ottawa will be looking to win it’s first against Florida. Both teams are on losing streaks, but Ottawa has been the better team so far by leaps and bounds.
Filip Kuba will make his return to the team tonight in an effort to boost the power-play. Shean Donovan will be on the fourth line with Ruutu and Kelly while Ryan Shannon will be the healthy scratch. Florida’s leading scorer, David Booth, is out with a concussion, while Radek Dvorak is out [...]

Bryan Murray does the right thing

AUTHOR: Bobby Zijiac | IN: Senators | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Today, the Senators sent down young phenom Erik Karlsson to the Binghamton Senators. After days of deliberation, they chose this option. I agree with the choice because he needs to stay in North America for him to develop. There was no point in sending him to Sweden, and even though I thought he should stay, going to Bingo is the 2nd best option. Entering this season, there were 4 rookie defenseman to watch for. Karlsson, Victor Hedman, Tyler Myers, and Michael Del Zotto. 3 are staying, while Karlsson is leaving. For the sake of the team, I hope Karlsson will [...]

An omen for Brian Lee?

AUTHOR: Bobby Zijiac | IN: Senators | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

Brian Lee was expected to be the 5th defenseman for the Sens this year. He had tons of momentum going his way after a solid season and the retirement of geezer Jason Smith. However, just like in a Hollywood movie, be careful what you wish for. Lee was upended by Erik Karlsson and Matt Carkner and because of his contractual status, he was sent down to Binghamton-again. The 2005 9th pick overall has never got his real groove going, but after watching the highlights of some B-Sens games this year, I think it will be a short time until he’s [...]

Bullshit: Bruins 4, Sens 3 (SO)

AUTHOR: Bobby Zijiac | IN: Senators | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Right now, I am steaming mad. We deserved to win this game. Boston sucked ass and if Tim Thomas had made those spectacular, brilliant, stupendous saves, we would have won 5-1. Two goals in the final two minutes of the 3rd for the Bruins erased Ottawa’s 3-1 lead, and all the monetum they built.
The top 3 lines were amazing tonight. Even Jonathan Cheechoo and Alexei Kovalev played hard, physical, and took shots. Both were denied by Timmy Thomas. After Fisher got a fluke goal, two shots from the point and two re-directions in front tied the game up. Overtime settled [...]

Seperate the Prey from the Predator

AUTHOR: Bobby Zijiac | IN: Senators | COMMENTS: None Yet

I think the guys can take something out of this in that they came back 3 times, beat all the pressure, and grabbed a point out of it. There were several players who excelled last night, and most of them are the players you depend on to win the game. You saw Jason Spezza flying on the ice, looking like a huge weight has been pulled from his shoulders. He wanted a goal, but he didn’t get but his 3 assists were huge. Anton Volchenkov layed another one of his devestating hits, this time on Joel Ward. Volchie also picked [...]

Gameday #8: Predators @ Senators

AUTHOR: Bobby Zijiac | IN: Game Days, Senators | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

After a 4 day relaxing break, the Ottawa Senators host the Nashville Predators, Tennessee’s favorite team, mind you only team. Nashville is coming off a 3-2 loss to the mighty Bruins, were rookie colin Wilson notched his first NHL goal. However, Nashville has performed below average and can’t seem to get their offense going. Even worse is that Jason Arnott, their leading scorer last year, is out with injury and same goes for Dan Hamhuis, their leading shot blocker. Here’s how their lineup is looking…
Sullivan – O’Reilly – Dumont
Erat – Legwand – Ward
Scatchard – Wilson – Hornqvist
Jones [...]
