A New Superman Called Pavelec: Thrashers 3, Senators 1
Ottawa has now lost their last 4 of 5 with a loss tonight against the Thrashers. There was excitement in the air, it’s Halloween and black thirds debuted tonight, and they did compete, but were denied 50 times by Ondrej Pavelec. Zach Bogosian, Rich Peverley, and Maxim Afinogenov scroed for the Trash while Mike Fisher replied with his 5th. Carrie Underwood was in the stands for this one wearing a Sens jersey.
To tell you the truth, I didn’t watch a lot of this game but from I saw and heard the Sens were completely dominated by the young Russian goalie today. Cheechoo had 5 shots on net, a season-high and ringed one off the crossbar in the 3rd. Pascal Leclaire had 23 saves, and even though he wasn’t as busy as Pavelec, he made some huge stops in the 2nd, otherwise it would have been 5-0. The team is seriously missing Spez and Volchie a lot, especially on the front end as Michalek is getting any good chances with Regin centering him.
I really liked Alexandre Picard’s game tonight, he had 6 shots on net and was on for 0 of the 3 goals (for those of you keeping track, Phillips-Kuba were on for 2 and Campoli-Lee were on for 1). It shows he’s practised hard on his game and deserves time on the backend. Filip Kuba played solid, and for a change Chris Campoli wasn’t that bad. He however suffered from his partner, Brian Lee who made some sloppy plays, gave away a lot of pucks, and looked nervous. Right now it’s looking like it’s do or die for Lee, because I bet he’s a guy that can be packaged in a trade.
4 day break until Thursday when the Sens host the Lightning. After that the whole month of November has 2 2 day breaks and a lot of 1 day breaks. The game I’m looking most forard too? November 12th in Philly.
