This past Saturday night, the Ottawa Senators found their confidence once again by defeating the San Jose Sharks 5-3 to end a five-game losing streak and improve to 30-25-4 on the season.

Now, it's time for the Senators to play the Washington Capitals for the final time this season. Despite being the best team in the Eastern Conference, the Senators have given the Capitals two hard fought games, but the third game is the most important one of them all with the tight standings in the East.

Sens play Caps for final time in 2024-25 season

The Senators travel to Capital One Arena to play the Washington Capitals with puck drop scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET.

Saturday against the Sharks was an important win to start March with momentum. Although the Senators trailed 2-1 at the start of the third period, the team scored four goals in the period to lock down the win. Shane Pinto and Brady Tkachuk each scored a goal in their return to help the Senators earn the win.

Tim Stutzle not only extended his point streak 11 consecutive games by recording two points in the win, but also extended his assist streak to 10 consecutive games. If Stutzle records an assist tonight, he will break the Senators record for most consecutive games with an assist.

As for the Capitals, they currently have the best record in the Eastern Conference with a 38-14-8 record, but they come into tonight on a three-game losing streak. Alex Ovechkin not only leads the Capitals with 31 goals this season, but needs 11 more goals to break Wayne Gretzky's all-time goals record.

Dylan Strome leads the Capitals with 59 points and 48 assists this season. Aliaksei Protas is second on the Capitals with 50 points and has the highest +/- rating on the team of +30.

In both Senators-Capitals games this season, the game was decided in overtime. Ovechkin scored the overtime winner in the first meeting on Jan. 16. In the second meeting exactly two weeks later, Thomas Chabot scored the overtime winner. Both games have finished with an exciting finish with each team earning one win over the other.
