The Ottawa Senators began their first home stand of the season with a 4-3 win against the Seattle Kraken and a 5-4 loss against the New York Islanders. Now, a Canadian showdown awaits with hosting the back-to-back Western Conference champion Edmonton Oilers.
Despite making the 2025 playoffs, the Senators struggled against the Oilers last season, but a new season will make the Senators eager to bring luck on their side.
Sens host Oilers in Canada's capital
The Senators host the Oilers at Canadian Tire Centre with a 7 p.m. ET puck drop.
In the Senators' last game this past Saturday against the Islanders, the team suffered a brutal 5-4 loss in regulation. After being up 2-0 in the second period, the Senators let the Islanders get back into the game the entire team with tying the game repeatedly. The Islanders didn't lead until Anders Lee scored the go-ahead goal with 1:03 remaining in regulation past Linus Ullmark.
Despite the loss, David Perron, Shane Pinto and Dylan Cozens each remained hot with scoring a goal in both games to start the home stand. Even with getting goal scoring, goaltending has been a major concern for the Senators with allowing in 30 goals through six games into the season.
For the Oilers, they have a 2-3-1 overall record to begin the season. The Oilers enter tonight riding a three-game losing streak with the most recent game being a 4-2 loss to the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday.
Connor McDavid is off to a slow start with recording seven points, but he still leads the Oilers in points and assists. Even with leading the Oilers in two offensive categories, McDavid hasn't scored a goal this season. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Leon Draisaitl are tied for the most goals on the Oilers with each of them having four goals.
Last season, the Oilers swept the two-game season series against the Senators. In the two games combined, the Senators were outscored 8-3.
The Senators may have gotten the Oilers on their schedule at the right time with not only having a few days off from their last game, but the Oilers playing their fourth consecutive road game.
