On Thursday night, the Ottawa Senators started their four-game home stand off big with a 4-3 shootout win against the Seattle Kraken. Next, it was time for an afternoon clash against the New York Islanders.
Last season, the Islanders won two of the three games against the Senators to take the season series. Both of the wins the Islanders earned were in Ottawa. With a new season to turn the tables with hosting the Islanders, one bad period hurt the Senators in the end.
The Islanders defeated the Senators 5-4 at Canadian Tire Centre. With the loss, the Senators fell to 2-4-0 on the season, and have now lost four of their last five games.
David Perron scored the only goal of the first period on a powerplay. It was the second conseuctive game in which Perron scored a powerplay goal. Arthur Kaliyev recorded his first point as a Senator with recording the secondary assist on Perron's goal.
At 5:32 of the second period, Shane Pinto remained hot with scoring his seventh goal of the season to make it 2-0 Senators. However, the Senators let the Islanders back into the game for the remainder of the game. Emil Heineman and Bo Horvat each scored a goal in a span of 3:07 to tie the game 2-2 after Pinto's goal.

Tim Stutzle then scored a goal to put the Senators back up by one goal with 3:14 remaining in the second period, but one again, the Islanders tied the game when Max Shabanov scored 59 seconds later. Before the period ended, Dylan Cozens scored to give the Senators a 4-3 lead heading into the second intermission. Irony from Thursday's game happened due to Perron, Pinto and Cozens each scoring a goal today, and those were the three players who scored in Thursday's game.
Exactly six minutes into the third period, Kyle Palmieri scored for the Islanders to tie the game 4-4. Then, Anders Lee showed why he wears the C on his Islanders jersey. With 1:03 remaining in regulation, Lee scored to give the Islanders a late 5-4 lead, which then turned into the final score of the game.

In the loss, Linus Ullmark allowed in five goals on 23 Islander shots on goal he faced. Through six games into the season, the Senators have allowed in 30 goals. Goaltending has been a major concern from the Senators that needs quickly. Drake Batherson and Thomas Chabot were solid offensively with each of them recording a two-assist game.
The Senators will return to action on Tuesday afternoon when they host the Edmonton Oilers. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Last season, the Oilers swept the two-game season series against the Senators. In the two losses combined against the Oilers, the Senators scored just three goals.
