Thursday night saw the Ottawa Senators suffer a tough 1-0 shutout loss in overtime against the Metropolitan Division leading Washington Capitals to fall to 22-18-4 on the season. Now, already the third back-to-back of 2025 awaits for the Senators as they play the Boston Bruins.
The Senators trail the Bruins by one point in the Eastern Conference standings in an already tight race, so today's showdown adds more pressure for both teams to defeat each other.
Senators meet Bruins in Ottawa
The Senators host the Bruins at 3 p.m. ET at Canadian Tire Centre. Today is the second of four meeting this season between the Senators and Bruins.
Although the Senators were shutout on Thursday, they did have quality scoring chances to score, but Capitals goaltender Logan Thompson stood tall. Thompson recorded his second consecutive shutout. It took one goal in overtime for someone to beat Leevi Merilainen after Alex Ovechkin scored the overtime winner with 1:53 remaining.
Playing tough against the Capitals is clear that the Senators have the ability to play against the top teams in the NHL. Despite losing, earning one point was big to get in the end.
As for the Bruins, they come into today's game with a 22-19-5 record. The Bruins have won their past two games against Atlantic Division foes Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning.
David Pastrnak is at it again with leading the Bruins with 20 goals, 28 assists and 48 points. Second on the team in points is Brad Marchand with 35.
The Senators won the first meeting this season against the Bruins 3-2 in overtime in Boston on Nov. 9. In the win, Brady Tkachuk broke the Senators franchise record for most career overtime goals scored.
