Brady Tkachuk breaks a Senators record in last night's overtime win vs Bruins
When the 2018 NHL Draft arrived, the Ottawa Senators were looking for a key piece for their future. With the fourth overall pick, the Senators selected Brady Tkachuk.
Brady was coming from a huge hockey family at the time of the draft with his brother Matthew and father Keith. Matthew at the time had already played two seasons with the Calgary Flames, and his father Keith was a two-time All-Star with over 1,000 career points.
When the Senators named Brady the 10th captain in Senators history in November 2021, more pressure was placed on him. However, Brady continues to climb his place in Senators history with breaking a cool record in Senators history at 25 years old.
Brady breaks Senators record for most overtime goals scored in franchise history
Brady scored the overtime winner just 21 seconds into overtime last night to help the Senators prevail with a 3-2 road win against the Boston Bruins. The overtime winner was Brady's eighth of his career to break the Senators all-time record which was previously held by Mike Fischer.
The Senators captain came through when they needed him at the biggest time, and Brady certainly did. It was a win the Senators desperately needed after starting off November with a 1-3-0 record, but also due to the Senators having a 1-5-0 record heading into the game. At 7-7-0, the Senators are not out of the playoff race, but need to start winning more games if they want to be taken more serious.
Brady's start to the 2024-25 season has been incredible. Brady is on pace for a career year and the Senators needed Brady to make a huge jump this season. Long story short, Brady certainly has.
Brady has recorded at least one point in 12 of the Senators' 14 games this season. Brady's eight goals at the moment are the most on the Senators, and his 10 assists and 18 points are both the second most on the Senators behind Tim Stutzle.
The captain has been phenomenal all season and will need to continue to produce big this season. With Brady breaking a record, it will add more motivation for him for the season. Brady's next milestone is needing three more assists to have 200 for his career.
