As the Ottawa Senators got ready to play the Winnipeg Jets in their final game in February, the team was without momentum after dropping their fourth consecutive game against the Montreal Canadiens this past Saturday.

Prior to the game, it was announced that Brady Tkachuk, Shane Pinto and Josh Norris were all out, which led to Angus Crookshank and Jan Jenik being inserted into the lineup. In an attempt to avenge their 4-2 loss against the Jets from Dec. 28, but it wouldn't happen.

The Jets defeated the Senators 4-1 at Canadian Tire Centre to extend their winning streak to 11 consecutive games, and hand the Senators their fifth consecutive loss. With the loss, the Senators fell to 29-25-4 on the season.

February was a brutal month for the Senators. After winning their first two games of the month against the Minnesota Wild and Nashville Predators, the Senators dropped their next five games to conclude February 2-5-0.

In a 1:17 span in the first period, the Jets scored two goals. The first goal scored by Cole Perfetti came on a tip-in after a Tim Stutzle turnover. On Mason Appleton's goal to make it 2-0, Linus Ullmark thought he had the puck, but the puck was loose instead. Perfetti and Appleton's goals were scored in just over nine minutes into the game.

Ullmark shook off the two goals in the first period and allowed in one goal the remainder of the game, and made 36 saves in the loss. Thomas Chabot scored the only goal of the game for the Senators to cut the deficit to 3-1. Stutzle recorded an assist on Chabot's goal to extend to 10 games.

Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck stood tall by making 24 saves to earn his 36th win of the season.

No momentum is on the Senators at a horrible time. The Senators will head into March not in a playoff spot with 62 points after holding a playoff position in February for a majority of the month.

The Senators will return to action on Saturday night when they host the San Jose Sharks at 7 p.m. ET. In the first meeting against the Sharks on Nov. 27 in San Jose, the Senators won the game 4-3 despite having 11 shots on goal in the game.
