The Ottawa Senators headed to the Music City to face the Nashville Predators riding a four-game winning streak after their crushing 6-0 win against the Minnesota Wild.
Prior to the game, the Senators were dealt a blow that Josh Norris would be out of the lineup for a few weeks. Even with Norris out, the Senators were eager to sweep their season series against the Predators after their 3-1 win on Dec. 7. When the Predators got momentum, the Senators found a way to shut it down.
The Senators defeated the Predators 5-2 at Bridgestone Arena to improve to 29-20-4 on the season. With the win, the Senators extended their winning streak to five games and swept the season series against the Predators.
Anton Forsberg made 25 saves to earn his fourth win over his last five starts. Along with Forsberg standing tall, the offense came up big when needed.
3. Milestone reached
Since being drafted third overall in 2020, Tim Stutzle has been a major part of the Senators organization. Against the Predators, Stutzle recorded another milestone.
Trailing 1-0 in the second period, the Senators were able to apply pressure with Stutzle using his speed to create a chance against Jusse Saros. After being denied, Adam Gaudette scored on a rebound for his 16th goal of the season.
Stutzle recorded an assist on Gaudette's goal to record his 300th career NHL point. Stutzle is now the only player from the 2020 NHL Draft with 300 career points. Stutzle's assist helped him extend his point streak to five games.
2. No stopping a hot defenseman
Against the Wild this past Saturday, Jake Sanderson was phenomenal by recording four points in the win. Heading into Nashville, Sanderson was only eager to remain hot.
After Gaudette tied the game at one halfway into the game, the Senators continued to apply pressure on Saros. Sanderson hit iron with the game tied, but when you fail once, you try again. On the second attempt, no iron was hit and Sanderson scored to give the Senators a 2-1 lead 3:04 after Gaudette's goal.
Sanderson's five-game point streak has been very helpful for the Senators. In the five games, Sanderson has recorded nine points, with three of them being goals. Sanderson now has recorded a goal in three consecutive games, which ties a Senators record for most consecutive games scored by a defenseman.
Prior to Sanderson scoring a goal over the past three consecutive games, he had just two goals on the season.
1. Not fazed at all in the third
When Jonathan Marchessault tied the game at two on the powerplay 47 seconds into the third period, the Predators had the momentum. Even with momentum on the Predators' side, it didn't bother the Senators.
Shane Pinto scored his 11th goal of the season 5:30 after Marchessault tied the game. With his goal, five of Pinto's goals this season have been game-winning goals. Pinto's big step of scoring timely goals has been big this season.
At long last, one Senator got a huge monkey off his back. After recording his first point as a Senator this past Thursday, David Perron finally scored his first goal as a Senator. Perron scored a big insurance goal on the powerplay with 5:54 remaining in regulation to make extend the Senators' lead to 4-2.
Ridly Greig added an empty-net goal to make it 5-2 to put the game away and helped the Senators score three goals in the third period.
Starting off the four-game road trip with a win was much needed for the Senators. Now, the Senators will head to Florida for the next three games.
The Senators return to action tomorrow night when they continue their four-game road trip with a clash against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET at Amalie Arena. The Senators won the first meeting against the Lightning 5-4 on Oct. 19 in Ottawa.
