The Ottawa Senators recently played a back-to-back this weekend against the Philadelphia Flyers and Utah Mammoth. After an off day yesterday, it's back to work tonight for the Senators against the Dallas Stars.
The Senators go from one talented team in the Central Division in the Mammoth to another talented team in the same division. This time, a Western Conference powerhouse that has made the Conference Finals over the past three years.
Sens host Stars in second game of four-game home stand
The Senators host the Stars at Canadian Tire Centre with puck drop being at 7 p.m. ET.
This past Sunday in snowy Ottawa, the Senators swept their back-to-back by earning a 4-2 win against the Mammoth. Ridly Greig and Jordan Spence each recorded a goal and an assist.
Michael Amadio scored for the fourth game in a row, and Nick Cousins scored the game-winning goal. Leevi Merilainen was solid as well with making 29 saves to earn his second consecutive win in three starts this season. Dylan Cozens also added two assists in the win.
For the Stars, they enter tonight's game in second place in the Central Division with a 9-4-3 overall record. Like the Senators, the Stars also swept their back-to-back from Saturday and Sunday. The most recent game for the Stars was a 2-1 win against the Seattle Kraken on Sunday night.
Mikko Rantanen leads the Stars with 21 points and 13 assists. Wyatt Johnston leads the Stars with 10 goals and is second on the team with 20 points. Jake Oettinger has struggled so far this season in goal with a 2.99 GAA in 11 games.
Last season, the Senators and Stars each earned a regulation win against each other in the two-game season series. Both games were played in January 2025 and started by Merilainen.
Goaltending has been a huge issue for the Senators through 16 games. With the depth Dallas has up front, tonight's game will be a test to see how Ottawa can play against some of the NHL's best teams.
