For the past two preseason games, the Ottawa Senators suffered brutal losses against the Montreal Canadiens and St. Louis Blues. In both games combined, the Senators were outscored 12-1.
The sixth and final preseason game had arrived for the Senators. It was another meeting against the Canadiens, but this time in Montreal instead of Quebec's capital. In the final preseason game, the Senators flipped the switch from Quebec City and got momentum heading into the regular season against the Canadiens.
The Senators defeated the Canadiens 3-1 at Bell Centre to conclude the 2025 preseason.
Both the first period and second period had the same results with the Senators scoring one goal in the period on a tip-in goal.
In the first period, it was Shane Pinto who scored the only goal of the period. In the second period, it was David Perron who scored the only goal of the period.
Pinto scored his third goal of the preseason off of a beautiful pass from Jake Sanderson. On Perron's goal, Nick Jensen recorded an assist with making his return to the lineup after having hip surgery back in May.
In the third period, the Canadiens solved Linus Ullmark with 4:24 remaining when Cole Caufield made it a one-goal game. However, it wouldn't be enough for the Canadiens. In his Senators debut, Lars Eller scored an empty-net goal to ice the game to secure the Ottawa.
Ullmark finished with making 19 saves against the Canadiens. In his past two preseason games combined, Ullmark allowed in one goal on 34 shots. A solid turnaround after allowing in three first period goals in the first preseason game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sept. 21.
Overall, the Senators finished 3-3-0 in the preseason.
With preseason concluding tonight, the 2025-26 regular season now awaits the Senators. The season opener for the Senators is scheduled on Oct. 9 against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Benchmark International Arena with a 7 p.m. ET puck drop.
