Just before August 2024 ended, the Ottawa Senators signed Nick Cousins to a one-year contract. Signing Cousins helped the Senators bring in championship pedigree as he was part of the 2024 Florida Panthers Stanley Cup championship team.
By the time November 2024 arrived, Cousins' play was a big struggle on the Senators, but he turned his 2024-25 season around by finishing with 15 points in 50 games as a fourth liner. Cousins missed a significant amount of time after suffering a knee injury in January 2025.
Cousins was an unrestricted free agent when the 2025 playoffs concluded. However, Cousins isn't going anywhere.
Cousins re-signs in Ottawa
Re-signing Cousins to get his fourth line production was a huge must for the Senators. Now, the Senators will get Cousins' fourth line production back.
Today, the Senators re-signed Cousins to a one-year, $825,000 contract. The salary was just $25,000 more than the one-year contract Cousins signed with the Senators last year.

At 31 years old and being a solid fourth liner, the Senators re-signed Cousins for a fair and solid contract. The salary can help the Senators pursue other free agents, and still have a chance to re-sign Cousins' fourth line teammate Adam Gaudette.
This free agency, general manager Steve Staios has re-signed Nikolas Matinpalo, Tyler Kleven, Fabian Zetterlund, Claude Giroux, Leevi Merilainen and now Cousins. It's clear that Staios is believing in his core from the 2024-25 season for another go-around in 2025-26.
With the Cousins signing, the Senators have over $7.36 million in cap space according to PuckPedia.
