Fairytale Ending in Washington

AUTHOR: Bobby Zijiac | IN: Senators | COMMENTS: None Yet

If you were lucky enough to listen into Alex Kovalev’s post-game interview with Sportsnet’s own Ian Mendes, Kovalev didn’t look worried at all. He replied to Mendes’ question about his “slump” by remarking “I wasn’t on a slump. If that’s what you guys call it, than fine. I was working, and going for it. I just couldn’t find one in the back of the net. Now God has rewarded me”. Oh my, arrogant Russians always please me. But this time the Russian is right. THIS IS ALEX KOVALEV. Streaky, but full of skill. He works hard most nights, but the [...]

Cap Me This: Senators @ Capitals Preview

AUTHOR: Bobby Zijiac | IN: Senators | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

 From nhl.com
#5 Ottawa Senators would clinch a playoff berth…
* if they defeat the Washington Capitals AND both the New York Rangers and Atlanta Thrashers lose (in regulation or overtime/shootout) to the New York Islanders and Toronto Maple Leafs, respectively
OR
* if they get one point vs. Washington AND the Rangers and Thrashers both lose in regulation
After last season’s big bowl of shit-less little insects not making the playoffs, and the off-season of turmoil, whether it was Dany Heatley striking out in Bytown, Erik Karlsson rising out from the dead and becoming a superhero, or the deadline acquisitions of Matt Cullen and [...]

Butler’s Got It Going On

AUTHOR: Bobby Zijiac | IN: Senators | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The Ottawa Senators have signed NCAA forward Robert (Bobby) Butler to a 2-year deal out of the University of New Hampshire. Butler lead the NCAA in goal-scoring this season and reached the Final 8 with UNH before being upset by Rochester Institute of Technology. When I first heard of the signing, my head immediately went to “second round pick”. GM Bryan Murray gave up both pre-Trade Deadline in order to acquire Matt Cullen and Andy Sutton. To make up for that, he’s dipping into the NCAA Free Agent Pool. Now, he’s got the most attractice. After seeing Big Headed Burkie across [...]

Hey There, Remember Us?: Senators @ Sabres Preview

Of course, only one goalie in that picture plays for their team now. And it’s not Ray Emery. Ryan Miller and Ilya Bryzgalov over in Phoenix are my MVP’s of this season. Not Stinky Ovechkin, Not Whyin’ Crosby. THe MVP should be given to that person who matters most for their team. Without Ryan Miller, Buffalo would be in the bottom of the standings. Without Ilya Bryzgalov, the same goes for Phoenix. Those two lead their team to vicotries and make those big saves that your coach is gonna love, night in and out.
Ottawa of course will have a hard [...]

Bad Romance

AUTHOR: Bobby Zijiac | IN: Senators | COMMENTS: None Yet

Last night’s game was another classic in the Senators-Flyers history book. Everybody will remember the 2003 Playoff Run, the Record Breaker in 2004, and now, this one. It had it all. Defense, hits, questionable calling, and two disallowed goals. It doesn’t matter though, the National Hockey League gives the win to Ottawa, a 2-0 victory with goals from Chris Kelly and Daniel Alfredsson.
First off, Chris Kelly was flying all over the ice. He got the goal on a sick wrister than eluded Flyers’ netminder Brian Boucher, and was on the ice during the 5 on 3 penalty kill. He’s got [...]

The Story of Brian vs. Brian: Flyers @ Sens Preview

AUTHOR: Bobby Zijiac | IN: Senators | COMMENTS: None Yet

Tonight, two backup goalies turned immediate starters will have the spotlight tonight, as Ottawa takes their incredible home record and hosts the 6th-place Philadelphia Flyers in a game of epic proportions (sound familiar?). The question however, is which goalie will steal the spotlight?
Brian Boucher is the starter because his predecessors have been fighting the injury bug. While ex-Sen convict goalie Ray Emery is done for the season with a possibly career-threatening injury, Michael Leighton was doing pretty good in his absence. Too bad his knee popped and he had to take a leave of absence for the season remaining. So come [...]

Clock Strikes 10: Sens @ Habs Preview

AUTHOR: Bobby Zijiac | IN: Senators | COMMENTS: None Yet

Ladies and Gentlemen, cue the drama. The drums. Any loud instrument you have in your posession, ’cause it’s going to be a big one tonight. The Battle of the Bridge, Sens vs. Habs, both enroiled in a three-way tie (along with Philadelphia) for 5th place in the Eastern Conference. If it can get bigger than this, than it’s June 1st, 2007 all over again.
All three teams buffled in the middle have 10 games left. 10, folks! After studying the teams each one has to play during the last course of the regular season, Montreal has the hardest schedule, with 6/10 teams [...]

What the Ottawa Senators Need To Do

AUTHOR: Bobby Zijiac | IN: Senators | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Daniel Alfredsson and the Ottawa Senators are on a 5-game losing slump. Good thing they won their last 14 of 16 before the Olympic Break, because if they didn’t, going to the playoffs would be a bit gloomy. Of course, many will remind us of the 5-game losing streak before the winning strech. I can see the similarities, and maybe this slump is “even better”. The last two games, we’ve scored goals. The problem has been our defense, which has somehow wet their pants ever since Andy Sutton came. What’s that, yes, the piss of Filip Kuba.
The Boston Bruins just [...]
