With the 168th overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft, Olle Lycksell was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers. The Flyers were hoping that Lycksell would turn into a solid draft steal for a sixth-round draft pick, but it didn't quite happen.
While he had AHL success with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, Lycksell recorded just 10 points in 45 NHL games with the Flyers. This offseason, Lycksell joined the Ottawa Senators on a one-year contract.
Lycksell so far has bounced around the Senators organization with playing in both the AHL and NHL this season. Tonight, Lycksell recorded the best game of his NHL career.
Lycksell gets payback and scores GWG against his old team
Tonight, the Senators won a huge 2-1 game against the Flyers to close out their four-game home stand to improve to 3-4-1 overall on the season. In the win, Lycksell played an important role that the Senators may not have expected.
With the game tied 1-1 early in the second period, Lycksell scored a goal to give the Senators a 2-1 lead. Lars Eller helped Lycksell score off of a beautiful pass to set up the goal. Not only was the goal Lycksell's first as a Senator, but the goal turned out to be the game-winning goal, which was the first of the 26-year-old's career.

Lycksell scored just one goal as a Flyer during his tenure, but scoring his first goal as a Senator only took four games to happen. Lycksell had not scored a goal since April 6, 2024.
Lycksell first showed promise in Ottawa with having a steady 2025 preseason. Now, Lycksell is making the most of his opportunity count with scoring his first goal as a Senator in his fourth game with the team, and scoring against his old team for a game-winning goal couldn't have been better.
