The Ottawa Senators lost two of their first three games to begin their four-game home stand after a 3-2 overtime loss to the Edmonton Oilers two nights ago. Tonight, the Senators closed out their home stand against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Last season, the Senators were solid against the Flyers with earning five of a possible six points in the three meetings between the two teams. In an early October showdown, the Senators were able to grind out themselves an important win.
The Senators defeated the Flyers 2-1 at Canadian Tire Centre. With the win, the Senators improved to 3-4-1 overall on the season, and close out their four-game home stand going 2-1-1 overall.
For the seventh time in eight games to start the season, the Senators found themselves trailing to start the game. Tyson Foerster scored for the Flyers 29 seconds into the game, but Michael Amadio scored his first goal of the season to tie the game at one over seven minutes later. The score remained 1-1 for the remainder of the period.
On Amadio's goal, Claude Giroux recorded his 755th career assist and 1,121st career point. The assist helped Giroux tie Doug Weight for 47th all-time in NHL history for assists; the point helped Giroux tie Darryl Sittler for 66th all-time in NHL history in points.
To open the second period, a new Senator made an impact against his former team with help from another new Senator. Olle Lycksell scored his first goal as a Senator 3:05 into the period off a beautiful pass from Lars Eller to give the Senators a 2-1 lead. Lycksell only scored one goal in 45 career games as a Flyer, it took him four games to score his first as a Senator. Lycksell's goal was the only goal of the second period.

Protecting a 2-1 lead in the third period, Linus Ullmark stood tall and didn't allow in a game-tying goal for the Flyers. Ullmark was a big concern as he entered tonight's game with a 3.80 GAA and .854 save percentage on the season. After Foerster's goal 29 seconds into the game, Ullmark was perfect for the remainder of the game. Ullmark finished with making 22 saves in his best game of the season to earn his third win of the season.
The Senators will return to action when they travel to Capital One Arena to take on the Washington Capitals. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. In three meetings against the Capitals last season, the Senators went 1-0-2 overall to earn four of a possible six points.
