Tuesday night's 5-2 loss against the Columbus Blue Jackets was easily made up for the Ottawa Senators when the Detroit Red Wings fell to the Montreal Canadiens, which helped the Senators clinch a spot in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

From thanking the Canadiens, to now playing the Canadiens for the final time this season has arrived for the Senators. However, every meeting against the Canadiens have ended in rough results for the Senators this season.

Final Sens-Habs meeting has arrived

The Senators host the Canadiens at Canadian Tire Centre with puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

Despite clinching a playoff spot on Tuesday, the loss against the Blue Jackets was a brutal one in the final road game of the season. After recording a shutout in his last start this past Saturday, Anton Forsberg allowed in five goals for the first time this season. The start might have been considered odd due to Linus Ullmark shutting out the Blue Jackets in the previous game from this past Sunday.

If one bright thing came out from the game, Fabian Zetterlund at last scored his first goal as a Senator in his 16th game with the team after being acquired in a trade with the San Jose Sharks.

As for the Canadiens, they are holding the second Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference with a 39-30-9 record. The Canadiens have 87 points to trail the Senators by three points in the standings. The Canadiens are hot with winning their past six games with the most recent being a 4-1 win on Tuesday against the Red Wings.

Nick Suzuki leads the Canadiens with 58 assists and 86 points. Cole Caufield leads the Canadiens with 37 goals and is second on the team with 67 points.

All three games between the Senators and Canadiens resulted in the same result with the Canadiens winning in regulation. In three games combined, the Canadiens have outscored the Senators 15-6.

In the last meeting between the two teams, the Canadiens won 6-3 on March 18 in Montreal. The Canadiens scored four goals in a span of 8:39 in the third period to win the game after Travis Hamonic scored give the Senators a 3-2 lead.
