This past Saturday night, the Ottawa Senators extended their winning streak to six consecutive games after their 4-2 road win against the Toronto Maple Leafs. After two days off, the Senators met a team they've struggled against all season long, the Montreal Canadiens.
The Senators fell in the first two meeting against the Canadiens with being outscored 9-3. The third time appeared to be the charm for the Senators, but then it wasn't.
The Canadiens defeated the Senators 6-3 at Bell Centre to end the Senators' six-game losing streak. With the loss, the Senators fell to 36-26-5 on the season. Even with the loss, the Senators remain in the first Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference standings with 77 points. However, the Canadiens are now four points behind the Senators with the win.
Goals by Christian Dvorak and Drake Batherson were the goals scored in the first period. Then, Michael Amadio scored the only goal in the second period to set up a huge third period with the Senators leading 2-1.
Momentum was on the Canadiens' side immediately when Lane Hutson scored 3:38 into the third period to tie the game at two. Less than three minutes later, the unexpected happened.
After recording the primary assist on Amadio's goal, Travis Hamonic scored his first goal of the season to give the Senators a 3-2 lead. Hamonic's goal was his first goal since Dec. 15, 2023. Then, the rally started after Hamonic's goal.

With 9:38 remaining in regulation, Josh Anderson scored to tie the game at three. Then, the Canadiens got a golden opportunity when Shane Pinto was called for tripping. With two seconds remaining on the Pinto penalty, Nick Suzuki scored a powerplay goal to give the Canadiens a 4-3 lead.
The Canadiens followed up Suzuki's goal by scoring two empty-net goals to extend the lead to 6-3. In a span of 8:39, the Canadiens scored four goals in the third period to put away the game.
With Linus Ullmark in net, he made 27 saves in the loss. In all three games against the Canadiens this season, Ullmark allowed in at least four goals in every game. Ullmark has allowed a combined 13 goals against the Canadiens this season.
Four Montreal forwards finished with a multi-point game, including Dvorak who finished with a four-point game.
The Senators will return to action on Thursday night when they host the Colorado Avalanche at Canadian Tire Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. In the first meeting on Oct. 27, the Senators fell 5-4 to the Avalanche in Denver.
