Senators return to the road for one game in Buffalo against Sabres
This past weekend, the Ottawa Senators concluded their first set of back-to-back games with a 2-1 loss on Friday night against the New York Rangers and a 3-0 shutout win on Saturday night against the Seattle Kraken.
After two days of rest, it's time to hit the road again for the Senators as they get ready to play Atlantic Division rival Buffalo Sabres. Whenever the Senators and Sabres play each other, it offers as a competitive game between the two rivals.
Senators head to Buffalo to take on Sabres
The Senators travel to KeyBank Center in Buffalo to take on the Sabres with puck drop at 7 p.m. ET. Tonight is the first of four meetings between the two teams. In the four regular season games played last season between the two teams, both teams earned two wins against each other.
Although the Senators have a 6-5-0 record, they have had severe struggles with playing on the road. The Senators are currently 1-4-0 on the road and also have been outscored by three goals on the road compared to outscoring their opponents by 12 when playing at home.
In the Senators' recent game on Saturday, the defense and goaltending were brilliant. Anton Forsberg recorded his second shutout of the season. Adam Gaudette remained hot with scoring his sixth goal of the season, and Tim Stutzle made Senators history by breaking the all-time record for most goals scored in Senators history before turning 23 years old with 97.
As for the Sabres, they are struggling yet again with a current 4-7-1 record. The Sabres enter tonight's game with a three-game losing streak with the most recent game being a 2-1 loss on Saturday night in the Motor City against the Detroit Red Wings.
Despite playing for a struggling team, Tage Thompson has been a bright spot this season for the Sabres with leading the team in goals with seven and points with 13. Thompson is also tied for the most assists on the team with six along with Alex Tuch, Rasmus Dahlin, Jason Zucker and Owen Power. Goaltending is another area of struggle for the Sabres as Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Devon Levi each have a goals against average over 3.15.
The Senators need to earn wins against teams in the Atlantic Division teams to start standing out in the division. So far this season, the Senators are 2-1-0 against teams in the Atlantic Division.
