The Ottawa Senators haven't worn a red jersey since 2021 when the team wore their first Reverse Retro jersey in franchise history. However, that is changing this upcoming 2025-26 season.

Earlier this month, the Senators revealed a new red jersey with the caption "ignite the red." Senators legend Chris Phillips was the first one to wear the new red alternate jersey. The Senators will wear their new red jersey for the first time this season on Oct. 16 when they host the Seattle Kraken at Canadian Tire Centre.

Although Sens fans will be happy to see the Senators wear red jerseys again, not everyone seems to be liking the new jerseys with a new ranking.

Senators red jersey not in top 8

Today, Bleacher Report's Joe Yerdon wrote an article titled "Ranking Every New NHL Jersey for the 2025-26 Season." Yerdon ranked the Senators red alternate jersey ninth out of 12 jerseys.

Jerseys ranked ahead of Senators by Yerdon:

8. Minnesota Wild white throwbacks

7. San Jose Sharks teal heritage jerseys

6. Boston Bruins home and away jerseys

5. Kraken alternate glow in the dark

4. Utah Mammoth home and away jerseys

3. St. Louis Blues home and away jerseys

2. Washington Capitals alternate Screaming Eagle

1. Detroit Red Wings Centennial jersey

One area Yerdon was critical when critiquing the new Senators jersey was the gold in it. Even with the return of red for the Senators, Yerdon had a final say in the jersey

"We like them, but we want to love them and we can't quite get there," Yerdon said.

The Senators have had gold in their logo for decades. However, the Senators never have had a gold jersey. Although the Senators never had a gold jersey, the gold fits in well with the jersey, and it maybe could be a potential idea for a new jersey.

For being ranked nine, the ranking may be low considering it's a new jersey. The Wild and Sharks jerseys are both old school, but some may not have liked them. Some may not like the gray in the Sharks jersey.

The Senators could be argued to be ranked in the top seven. However, nine may be disrespectful for being a new jersey.
