Saturday night saw the Ottawa Senators gain their confidence back after defeating the New Jersey Devils 3-2 on the road to snap a two-game losing skid. Now, the three-game road trip continues in Buffalo against the Buffalo Sabres in the third meeting of the season.
The first two games for the Senators against the Sabres this season went extremely rough, but the Senators will hope that the third time will be the charm.
Senators face Sabres in Buffalo for final time this season
The Senators travel to KeyBank Center to take on the Sabres with puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
On Saturday night, the Senators scored all their goals in the second period from Brady Tkachuk, Drake Batherson and David Perron. Linus Ullmark finished with 25 saves to help earn the win. Ullmark's start was needed after allowing in four goals in back-to-back starts prior to his start against New Jersey.
The Devils had a chance to tie the game at three in the final seconds in the third period, but Artem Zub was able to clear the puck out of the crease to prevent the game from being tied.
As for the Sabres, they come into tonight's game with a 28-35-6 record. The Sabres upset the Winnipeg Jets 5-3 in their last game on Sunday. In the win, ex-Senator Jacob Bernard-Docker recorded two assists to record his first multi-point game in his career.
Tage Thompson leads the Sabres with 34 goals and 60 points. Rasmus Dahlin leads the Sabres with 41 assists and is tied for second on the team in points with 54 along with JJ Peterka. Since being traded over to Sabres on March 7, ex-Senator Josh Norris has played three games for the Sabres, but hasn't played since March 12.
Both games for the Senators against the Sabres have been awful. In the two games combined, the Sabres have outscored the Senators 9-1.
In the first meeting in Buffalo on Nov. 5, the Senators fell 5-1. The second metting was another loss by four goals for the Senators when they were shutout 4-0 in Ottawa on Jan. 9.
