After a dominating 5-1 win on Wednesday night against the Anaheim Ducks, the Ottawa Senators now begin their fourth set back-to-back games.
Tonight, the Senators play the Carolina Hurricanes for the second time this season. In the first meeting between the two teams on Nov. 16, it went ugly for the Senators.
Senators play Hurricanes to begin fourth set of back-to-back
The Senators travel to Lenovo Center to play the Hurricanes with puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. The Hurricanes shutout the Senators 4-0 in the first meeting in Raleigh behind a 24-save shutout by Spencer Martin.
On Wednesday night, the Senators dominated the Ducks from start to finish. In the first period, the Senators scored three goals and applied pressure on the Ducks for the rest of the game. Three of the five goals the Senators scored came on the powerplay, and Linus Ullmark made 31 saves to earn the win.
The win against the Ducks was highlighted by Drake Batherson's four-point game, which included his second career hat trick. It was Batherson's first career hat trick since October 2021. Batherson is now on the Senators in points this season with 32.
As for the Hurricanes, they currently are in third place in the Metropolitan Division with an 18-9-1 record. Despite being in third place in their division, the Hurricanes come into tonight losing four of their last six games. The Hurricanes did win their most recent game on Tuesday night 3-2 against the San Jose Sharks.
Martin Necas has been spectacular all season for the Hurricanes with leading the team with 14 goals, 29 assists and 43 points. Necas' 43 points is tied for the third most in the NHL. Sebastian Aho is second on the Hurricanes in points with 30.
The Senators do come into tonight's game hot after going 3-1-0 on their recent four-game home stand. However, the Senators now take their 4-7-1 road record and head to one of the toughest arenas in the NHL to play in as a road team. The Hurricanes are 11-3-0 at home this season.
