After the 2023-24 season, the Ottawa Senators needed to sign a veteran leader who can produce offense. To do that, the Senators signed David Perron to a two-year contract at $4 million per year.
Prior to Ottawa, Perron recorded 103 points over the past two seasons with the Detroit Red Wings. Perron was also a former Stanley Cup champion with the St. Louis Blues in 2019. Along with being a former Stanley Cup champion, Perron had recorded 13 seasons of at least 40 points or more. Of his 13 seasons, five of them were 50-point seasons and two of them were 60-point seasons.
The upcoming 2025-26 season will be Perron's final year of his contract in Ottawa as of now. Despite a tough season last year, Perron is due for a big season and is capable of doing so.
Perron due for big season in Ottawa after roller coaster season last year
In his first season in Ottawa last year, it was a roller coaster one for Perron. In October, Perron had to take personal time away due to his daughter's health. Perron would miss 11 games, then returned in November.
Perron came back for the Senators' game on Nov. 16 against the Carolina Hurricanes. Then, Perron played in thee more games before suffering an injury that put him out of action until Jan. 23 due to a back injury.
Perron recorded no points in the first 12 games into his Senators tenure, but the rest of the season would be steady. Perron finished with recording 16 points in the next 31 games he played in.
March was Perron's best month of the season to help the Senators in their playoff chase. In 15 games in March, Perron recorded 10 points. Seven of Perron's points in March were goals. Perron scored a goal in three consecutive games at one point during the month.
In the 2025 playoffs, Perron showed the Senators his playoff experience. Perron recorded three points in the first round series against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Perron scored a go-ahead goal in the third period in Game 4, then scored the game-tying goal with under eight minutes to play in the third period in Game 6.
With being on an expiring contract, Perron is destined for a big season to convince the Senators to re-sign him. With how March and the 2025 playoffs were from Perron, there's reason to believe he can have a solid season.
