The Ottawa Senators continue to shock the NHL with their special season in search of clinching a playoff spot for the first time since 2017 with a 39-28-5 overall record.
Following their 3-2 win last night against the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Senators remain in first place in the Eastern Conference standings with 83 points. In March, the Senators have posted a 10-3-1 record.
A big reason to the Senators having success in March is due to their forward depth. In particular, one veteran is making his presence known at the right time, and is getting recognized.
Gazdic gives Perron high praise during March stretch
Luke Gazdic played four seasons in the NHL with the Edmonton Oilers and New Jersey Devils from 2013-2017. Before the Senators' game last night, Gazdic gave David Perron high praise with the Senators chasing a playoff spot.
Gazdic thought of Perron as an "ageless wonder" at 36 years old. Gazdic also said that Perron is "flying" right now.

After having personal issues with his daughter earlier this season, to hurting his back and finishing February with recording four points in 20 games played, March has been a hot month for Perron.
In 14 games in March, Perron has recorded 10 points. Seven of Perron's points in March have been goals. Perron has recorded three powerplay goals and two game-winning goals. Perron also had a three-game stretch of scoring a goal in each of the three games.
When the Senators needed Perron to come through, he certainly has at a crucial time in the middle of the playoff hunt. Perron's offense has grown big with playing alongside Drake Batherson and Dylan Cozens. The three have become heavily relied on in March.
"There's a reason that on July 1, Steve Staios went out and said 'I want to get a player like this in my lineup,'" Gazdic said. "Brings the experience. Brings some great veteran leadership, and he's bringing the offense along with him."
Perron and the Senators have another crucial game today at 5 p.m. ET when they take on the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Steel City. The Senators will attempt the three-game season series against the Penguins.
