Last night, the Ottawa Senators earned a big 2-1 win at home against the Detroit Red Wings to improve to 11-12-2 on the season. Defeating the Red Wings in regulation helped the Senators big since the Red Wings were ahead of the Senators by two points prior to the game.
In the important win, Josh Norris scored both of Ottawa's goals. Norris' second goal came with under 45 seconds to break the 1-1 tie and help give the Senators a 2-1 win.
After his two-goal game last night, Norris' strong season continued. Norris is now third on the Senators for goals this season with 11 behind Brady Tkachuk's 13 goals and Adam Gaudette's 12 goals. Following his two-goal game, Norris had a big message to the Senator fans that can hype the fan base.
Norris tells Senator fans to keep packing Canadian Tire Centre
The Senators have a loyal fan base in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Following the win, Norris talked with TSN's Claire Hanna. While talking with Hanna, Norris sent a message to the Senator fans about what it means when Canadian Tire Centre is packed.
"It means everything when it's packed in here," Norris said. "So, yeah, keep on coming, and it's gonna get better."
Playing at home certainly has been a difference maker for the Senators this season. The Senators have a 7-5-1 home record compared to their 4-7-1 road record.
Norris also may have sent a bold message like that because he wants to be in Ottawa. Last week, Norris' name was mentioned in trade rumors according to hockey insider Frank Seravalli. Norris has a $7.95 million cap hit until 2030.
Since the trade rumors, Norris has responded with scoring three goals in the past four games. Norris' two goals against the Red Wings continued his dominance against the Red Wings. In nine career games now against the Red Wings, Norris has now scored seven goals. For being a Michigan native, Norris' game held more meaning last night.
The Senators will be at home for the next three games as the Senators host the Nashville Predators, New York Islanders and Anaheim Ducks. It's clear that Norris wants to see Canadian Tire Centre packed with Senator fans, and the fans can respond to Norris' comments by packing the arena for the next three games of the home stand.
