Prior to the 2022-23 season, the Ottawa Senators were looking to add quality veteran leadership from a player who can produce offense. To do that, the Senators signed Claude Giroux to a three-year contract.

After the 2025 playoffs, Giroux was an unrestricted free agent. There were some concerns whether or not Giroux would re-sign in the nation's capital, but those concerns were put to bed on Sunday when Giroux signed to a one-year contract to remain a Senator.

The Senators re-signing Giroux shows they're committed to winning after making the playoffs. With Giroux re-signing, it's time to re-live some of his top moments in Ottawa while more special moments can be ahead in the future.

Giroux's top 5 moments as a Senator

Giorux had some solid moments in his career as a Senator already, and the 37-year-old will be eager to create more moments in the 2025-26 season.

5. Sick between-the-legs goal vs Red Wings

On Dec. 31, 2022, the Senators headed to the Motor City for a clash with the Detroit Red Wings. Despite the Senators losing the game, Giroux showed he's got fancy skills for being 34 years old at the time.

Giroux would go between-the-legs against Detroit's Jake Walman and shoot a backhand shot that would beat Magnus Hellberg.

Over the past three seasons, this was one of Giroux's best goals as a Senator.

4. Slapshot goal vs Sharks

When Giroux's slapshot is one, it's dangerous. In a game against the San Jose Sharks on Dec. 3, 2022, Giroux's slapshot came to life in Ottawa.

After the Senators killed off a 4-on-3 Sharks powerplay, Giroux found himself on a breakaway looking to extend the Senators' lead. To do that, Giroux fired a slapshot that beat Sharks goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen to extend the lead to 5-2.

Giroux's breakaway goal helped cap off a three-point game and a Senators win.

3. Scoring Ottawa's first home playoff goal since 2017

Prior to the 2024-25 season, the Senators had not hosted a home playoff game at Canadian Tire Centre since May 23, 2017. In 2025, the Senators clinched a playoff spot with Giroux on the team. Heading into Game 3 of the first round series against the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Senators found themselves in an 0-2 series deficit.

Even though the Senators fell to the Maple Leafs in six games, Giroux sent Sens fans at CTC into a frenzy by scoring the Senators' first home playoff goal since 2017.

On a 5-on-3 powerplay in the second period, Giroux snipped a shot past Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz to give the Senators a 1-0 lead.

2. Setting a new career-high in goals

Prior to joining the Senators, Giroux's career-high for most goals scored in a single season was 34 back in the 2017-18 season when he was part of the Philadelphia Flyers. That would change in his first season as a Senator.

In the 2022-23 season, Giroux recorded a new career-high with 35 goals in the season. Giroux scored his 35th goal of the season in Ottawa's game against the Buffalo Sabres on April 13, 2023.

Giroux's first season in Ottawa was special with not only recording a new career-high in goals, but also recording 79 points on the season.

1. Joining the 1,000-point club

On April 10, 2023, the Senators took on the Carolina Hurricanes. With holding a 1-0 lead, Giroux was one point away from the 1,000-point milestone.

Giroux would pass the puck to Tim Stutzle who would score a goal to give Giroux his 1,000th career point. Giroux became the 96th player in NHL history to record 1,000 points. When Stutzle scored, the Senators came off the bench to congratulate Giroux on reaching the milestone.

Giroux had special moments before re-signing to a one-year contract. Now, Giroux can create more moments as a Senator moving forward.
