After defeating the Boston Bruins 6-3 on Thursday night, the Ottawa Senators' impressive March surge continued. The win improved the Senators' record to 6-0-1 in March, then an important date with the hated Toronto Maple Leafs arrived.

The Senators won the two previous meetings against the Maple Leafs this season, outscoring the Maple Leafs 5-1 combined in the two games. With the third and final meeting taking place in Toronto, it was the same result as the previous two.

The Senators defeated the Maple Leafs 4-2 at Scotiabank Arena to sweep the three-game season series. With the win, the Senators not only extended their winning streak to six games, but also improved for 36-25-5 on the season.

With another win coming at a crucial time, the Senators remain in the first Wild Card with now 77 points. The March surge continues with the Senators now earning 15 of a possible 16 points in the month.

After a scoreless first period, the second period picked up with goals being scored. After William Nylander scored to make it 1-0 Maple Leafs 6:49 into the second period, Jake Sanderson responded with scoring a goal 1:08 later to tie the game at one. With his goal, Sanderson now has 46 points to continue his awesome season.

The Senators would have another bend don't break moment in the period. After a mishap by Linus Ullmark that led to Auston Matthews scoring to give the Maple Leafs a 2-1 lead, David Perron and Claude Giroux each scored a goal in 1:52 span to give the Senators a 3-2 lead heading into the second intermission. Giroux has now recorded goals in back-to-back games.

Ullmark stood tall for the remainder of the game after his mishap to finish with 20 saves to earn the win. Ten of Ullmark's saves came in the third period. Artem Zub received a delay of game penalty with 5:09 remaining in regulation, but the Senators' penalty kill came through clutch to kill off the Zub penalty.

Zub's delay of game penalty was the only time the Senators went on the penalty kill. After killing off the penalty, Michael Amadio iced the game with an empty-net goal to make the game 4-2 for his ninth goal of the season.

The Senators are now four points behind the Maple Leafs for the second seed in the Atlantic Division. The Senators' hot March continues to surprise people around the NHL, but another Atlantic Division opponent now awaits the Senators for next game.

The Senators will return to action on Tuesday night when they travel to Bell Centre to take on the Montreal Canadiens. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

The Senators fell in the first two meetings against the Canadiens and were outscored 9-3. In the last meeting on Feb. 22, Ullmark was pulled after allowing five goals on 15 shots on goal. The Canadiens won tonight 3-1 against the Florida Panthers at home to remain six points behind the Senators in the standings.
