One prospect that the Ottawa Senators were hoping to grow was Stephen Halliday when they drafted him 104th overall in the 2022 NHL Draft. Prior to this AHL season, Halliday has shown he has potential.
From 2022-2024 at Ohio State University, Halliday recorded 77 points in 78 career games. Halliday was able to play 10 regular season games in the AHL with Belleville last season. While Halliday only recorded five assists in the 10 games he played, he impressed in the 2024 Calder Cup Playoffs by recording nine points in seven games.
As this season arrived at 22 years old, Halliday was only destined to grow his game more. Halliday was steady in Belleville to begin 2024, but he's made more strides in 2025. Halliday's play in AHL may show that he's ready to get a chance to play in NHL soon.
Halliday has been on fire in 2025
Halliday ended 2024 with recording a two-goal game to continue his big strides. Now 10 games into 2025, Halliday hasn't slowed down in Belleville.
Ten games into 2025, Halliday has recorded 12 points. As of the afternoon of Feb. 5, Halliday is on a five-game point streak.
In Belleville's last game this past Saturday, Halliday recorded a three-assist game. Halliday's three-assist game was his third three-point game of the season.
Halliday leads Belleville with 37 points this season. Although he's more known for his passing, Halliday had a six-game stretch in 2025 of scoring one goal in four of the games played.
The Senators are facing injuries up front with not having Josh Norris for a few weeks. Last night in the 4-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning, Shane Pinto was injured in the first period and didn't return.
If the Senators want to call up a prospect from Belleville, it's hard to not look at Halliday with his hot start to begin 2025.
