As the Senators explore the trade market, this forward makes too much sense

If Travis Konecny becomes available in Philadelphia, the Ottawa Senators should waste no time picking up the phone and exploring a deal.

The Ottawa Senators are reportedly exploring the trade market for scoring help, and there is one player who should be near the top of their list. If the Philadelphia Flyers are willing to move Travis Konecny, the Senators should waste no time picking up the phone and seeing what it would take to get a deal done.

There have been rumours surrounding Konecny's future in Philadelphia, and if the Flyers decide they are ready to move on, Ottawa needs to be involved. He is exactly the type of forward the Senators should be looking to add as they try to take another step forward.

Konecny would be a great fit in Ottawa

Konecny brings a lot to the table. He can score, create offence, play with an edge and isn't afraid to get involved physically. He's also the type of player who can make things happen when a game gets difficult, which is something every team needs more of.

The Senators have some good pieces up front, but adding another proven offensive player would give them a lot more options. Konecny could fit into the top six and give Ottawa another player who can produce alongside its established forwards.

There is also something to be said about adding a player who has spent his career in the Metropolitan Division and knows what it takes to play in tough games. Konecny has plenty of NHL experience, and Ottawa would be getting a forward who still has a lot to offer.

The Senators should be aggressive if Konecny is available

Of course, there is a big difference between being interested in a player and actually getting a deal done. The Flyers would have to be willing to move Konecny, and the asking price could be a challenge. Ottawa also has to be careful about what it gives up, especially if Philadelphia wants a significant return. The good thing is, he isn't having a great start to the season, so the Senators may get a bit of a break on the trade package. That said, based on other reports from Anthony Di Marco, the Flyers would likely ask for Ridley Greig; who is someone they've been interested in since his draft year.

But if the Flyers are serious about moving him, Staios should be making that call. The Senators are already looking for scoring help, and Konecny makes too much sense to ignore. There is no guarantee a trade happens, but Ottawa should at least push to see if something can get done.
