According to a report from Daily Faceoffs, Anthony Di Marco, the Philadelphia Flyers, has been linked to Ottawa Senators' Ridly Greig as part of some early-season trade rumours.

While it is extremely unlikely that the Senators would trade Greig, it appears that the Flyers have been interested in the gritty forward for quite some time, dating back to his draft year. At this time, Ottawa is playing well, so there is no real need to make a move, especially with all the injuries that they've had to their line. However, it appears that the struggling Flyers are still calling.

Flyers express interest in Senators' Greig

Di Marco of DFO recently wrote about the interest that the Flyers have had in Greig, highlighting just how long they've been eyeing him.

""For example, the Flyers had previously had interest in Ottawa Senators center Dylan Cozens going back to the player’s time with the Buffalo Sabres. But speaking with Flyers sources last week, DFO learned that the Flyers no longer view Cozens as a fit for their top six going forward. Cozens, 25, has just one goal and four assists in 12 games this season.

Sticking with the Senators, the Flyers have liked forward Ridly Greig going back to the 2020 NHL Draft. Greig, 24, is a natural center but has played the majority of his NHL career on the wing due to Ottawa being deep down the middle; he has one goal and two assists in 10 games this season.

Speaking with a Flyers source Monday, DFO was told that while the team does still like Greig, they aren’t sure what his overall upside is. Given his lack of offense in the NHL to date and his deployment mainly being on the wing, there is trepidation as to whether he can ultimately be a top-six center. It is worth noting that it has been said several times that the Senators don’t have an appetite for trading any of their centers, according to sources.

So if not Cozens and Greig—and assuming the Seattle Kraken don’t want to move Matty Beniers, which is the case, by all indications—who could the Flyers target?"
Di Marco

Di Marco made it clear that the Flyers want to add forwards, especially with their early-season struggles; it makes sense. However, it does seem extremely unlikely that Steve Staios and the Senators would part with Greig or even Dylan Cozens for that matter. Both players provide the club with grit, something that they lost when Brady Tkachuk was traded this past summer.

It is nice to know that the Senators' forwards are valued. If things fall apart and they opt to trade some players, they know the Flyers are interested. That said, it'd only make sense if they trade either player if they were getting someone like Travis Konecny in return, someone who is a significant needle mover.
