In a season of needing to earn trust back from the Ottawa Senators, goaltender Anton Forsberg has had some inconsistency. In 11 starts this season, Forsberg has a 4-6-0 record with a 2.95 goals against average and .889 save percentage.

Despite having inconsistency, Forsberg has shown flashes this season with recording two shutouts. At times, Forsberg has shown he can be a reliable backup to Linus Ullmark with making good saves.

On Dec. 14, Forsberg suffered an injury in warmups that caused him to be out of the lineup in a game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. As the Senators play their second game of 2025 tonight at 8 p.m. ET against the St. Louis Blues, Forsberg is ready to go.

Forsberg to start his first game of 2025 following his injury

Forsberg was activated off injured reserve yesterday, but Leevi Merilainen got the start in goal against the Dallas Stars. Merilainen made 21 saves in the Senators' 4-2 loss last night to the Stars. With tonight being a conclusion of a back-to-back, Forsberg will get the start against the Blues tonight.

Forsberg's last start came on Dec. 8 when the Senators suffered a 4-2 loss at home against the New York Islanders. In the start, Forsberg disappointed by allowing in three goals on 12 shots on goal by the Islanders.

In six of his 11 starts this season, Forsberg allowed in three goals. In three of his starts, Forsberg allowed in four goals.

Although Forsberg lost his last two starts before the injury, returning to the lineup is a boost for both the Senators and Forsberg. Ullmark's return date is anybody's guess.

Earlier this season in October, Ullmark missed four games due to an injury. Forsberg started all four games with Ullmark out. In the four games, Forsberg went 2-1-0 and was pulled in one of the starts against the Los Angeles Kings. One of the two wins that Forsberg earned was a shutout against the Utah Hockey Club.
