Much of the talk over the past few months has been on the upcoming contracts that need to be signed by the Ottawa Senators. The one most in the forefront at the moment is Kyle Turris.
Kyle Turris first came to the Ottawa Senators at the end of 2011 in a trade with the Phoenix Coyotes. Contract talks had gone poorly in the desert and Turris requested a trade. As a result, he was sent to Ottawa in what is still one of their best trades in history. For the low price of David Rundblad and a second round pick the Ottawa Senators acquired one of their best forwards in their history.
Consistency
Since joining the Ottawa Senators Turris has been a phenomenal player for the Sens. He has consistently put up 50-60 points with little assistance. Although his numbers aren’t incredibly high he has always been one of the players to score when the team needs it. Now the number one centre of the Sens he has truly developed into and proven to be a number one centre in the NHL.
Extension
Now with Kyle Turris as the number one centre of the Sens, they are faced with re-signing him. His contract is up and the end of the season, giving the team eight months to get him signed.
Currently Turris is being paid a salary of 3.5 million on average annually. A very cheap price for a player of his caliber. However, that will not be the case for the next contract as he will get a substantial raise.
The rumour with Turris is that management and Turris are close in terms of the dollars. Both are rumoured to be satisfied with roughly six million annually. However, a problem has developed with the length of the contract. Turris wants a longer contract and the Ottawa Senators aren’t comfortable with a contract of 7-8 years.

Patience
General Manager Pierre Dorion has assured fans that contract talks are going well and progress is going well. However, until the contract is signed Sens fans will be concerned. If the Ottawa Senators can’t get Turris signed it will seriously impede their championship hopes in the coming years.
