Jared Cowen’s Future Hazy, UFA Erik Condra Could Be Pursued

Silver Seven “End Of Season Player Interviews” – Ary M.
Submission: Zachary Prenner
Ary M over at Silver Seven Sens has a compilation of all the player exit interviews for the 2014-15 season. Nice to hear about the confidence the group had in themselves, and the optimism going forward.
The Take: A piece I read earlier in the week from 6th Sens discussed the hazy futures of players Chris Neil and Chris Phillips. On the day that was locker cleanout day, the last official team meeting of the year, Phillips had some interesting comments as both Neil and Phillips look to bring their games to Ottawa in 15-16. For Phillips, I truly think he could contribute again as a 6th/7th defender if he’s able to skate and feels good. Neil, on the other hand has an interesting future ahead of him. He’s a UFA after next season and may not have a spot on Ottawa’s roster. Would there be interest in the NHL? Could Ottawa look to trade him?… just another storyline to follow this 0ff-season.
SensChirp “What’s Next For Jared Cowen” – Chirp
Submission: Jay Maps
Senschrip reviews the decision Bryan Murray and his team have regarding Jared Cowen this off season. He believes it will be a harder decision then alot of people think. – “The biggest reason being, the Jared Cowen we saw early in his career is exactly what the Senators blueline is missing right now”.
The Take: I had a similar piece not too long ago. But as Jay points out, the organization may be reluctant to trade Cowen given the ever lasting “promise” his game holds. Cowen has looked slow and many times out of position and given that 3 million dollar salary on a team where dollars mean a lot, it might just make sense for Ottawa to trade him this off-season.
Bonk’s Mullet “How To Cost The Ottawa Senators A Game” – Capital Gains
Submission: Josh Chenoweth
Given the hubub over the refs’ missed calls and such in the series, I thought it would be fun to include this tutorial from Bonk’s Mullet on How to Cost the Sens a Game in Photoshop.
Ottawa Sun “Senators Ready To Offer Andrew Hammond A Contract Extension” – Bruce Garrioch
Submission: Travis Valois
Bruce Garrioch has spoken with Bryan Murray. He reports that Murray and the Senators will be offering Andrew Hammond a contract. If Hammond chooses to sign with the Sens one of the teams other goalies will be on the move.
The Take: Garrioch mentions right away that Andrew Hammond may be ready to steal someones job, and I’m still a little uneasy about that. Robin Lehner has played at the league average (or above) as a 23-year-old and Craig Anderson is still one of the league’s top 10 goaltenders. I’m not sure I want Andrew Hammond taking either of these guys spots.
The Hockey Writers “UFA Erik Condra A Bargain At 3 Million?” – Adam Coombs
Submission: Trevor Shackles
Adam Coombs at The Hockey Writers writes a similar piece to my own, as he points out why Ottawa should give the money to Erik Condra.
He’s a valuable player even if he won’t put up the big point totals.
The Take: 3 million bucks? For Erik Condra? remember at the deadline when B. Murray commented how he would have had to have eaten 50% of Condra’s salary to get a 5th or 6th round pick for him? Yea.. good times. Condra stepped up his game late this season, which should garner some free agency attention and given other contracts that have been passed on to UFA’s, perhaps Condra @ 3 mil isn’t too crazy. If that’s the case, however.. I wouldn’t expect to see him back in a Senators’ uniform.

Ottawa Senators: 5 Things To Be Proud Of – I totally agree with Jay in his analysis in this piece. Awesome stuff, and although the season is over, you can’t say Ottawa didn’t put up a fight. Bobby Ryan had a poor end of the year, but can only bounce back next season. Take a look at Jay’s post. Jay – 5 things to be proud of.
NHL Season Awards. Trevor gives us his final 2015 season awards. With two Senators up for the prizes, how did they do according to Trevor?
Chris Phillips – Contribute? Can Chris Phillips Contribute To The Ottawa Senators Again?
