Here’s our writer’s favourite pieces from around the web in the early going of the week. The Senators are set to square off against the Habs tonight, in what’s true to be full of storylines.
Perhaps injuries have become the biggest storyline on this team. With Craig Anderson, Robin Lehner and Clarke MacArthur going down, the Senators will see Chris Driedger and Andrew Hammond as their tandem.
Here’s our favourite pieces on the week with an emphasis on the NHL trade deadline, Marc Methot and a little piece on Steve Montador.
AROUND THE WEB:
The 6th Sens, “Assessing Ottawa’s Forwards/#TeamTank Dilemma” – Nichols
Submission: Josh Chenoweth
The 6th Sens has a piece on Ottawa’s current group of forwards (with the exception of recent call-up Shane Prince), where they sit in terms of quality, and what should be done with them as the trade deadline approaches.
It also addresses an issue many fans are struggling with: whether or not to cheer for the team to tank to get a better draft selection.
Ottawa Sun, “Sens’ MacArthur remembers time with Montador” – Don Brennan

Don Brennan’s piece on Steve Montador is a thoughtful one. Montador’s passing marks the 4th NHLer in recent memory to pass away after dealing with similar off-ice struggles.
Brennan’s piece links Clarke MacArthur and Sens Coach Dave Cameron. MacArthur being a teammate of Montador’s in 2010-11.
Ottawa Sun “Senators at Trade Deadline: Talk, but no action?” – Bruce Garrioch
Submission: Trevor Shackles
Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports that Bryan Murray may be inactive at the trade deadline, instead waiting until the summer.
If no veteran assets are moved, I think that’s a major mistake. Some players could net a few draft picks, and this is the perfect year to get plenty of those.
Silver Seven Sens “Silver Nuggets: Cap Situation for Next Year” – Ary M.
Submission: Eldrinson Vado
Ary (@carteciel) Takes a quick look at the Ottawa Senators cap situation next season. Something to really keep an eye on going into the new year, especially with our budget.
Silver Seven Sens “Email Hotstove: Methot Extension” – Don Brennan
Submission: Zachary Prenner
The crew over at Silver7Sens gather together to form an email hotstove to discuss Marc Methot contract extension.>Personally, although it got seriously murky at times.
I always believed the two sides would eventually find something to agree upon and Methot would remain an Ottawa Senator, but I was certainly pleasantly surprised to see both the price and the term to be very agreeable.
I was thinking at least one of the two might be a little harder to swallow, but this whole deal is very palatable and I’m happy to have Marc Methot in the capital for the next 4 years.
