The Ottawa Senators have signed Pageau but GM Pierre Dorion says his work may not be done for the summer.

The most important thing that Dorion has left to do is sign Restricted Free Agent Ryan Dzingel. The 25 year old forward had 14 goals and 32 points in 81 games last season. Known for his speed, Dzingel fits in well in Boucher’s system on the fourth line. Not needed for a huge amount of scoring, he can add energy from the bottom of the Ottawa Senators’ lineup when needed.

Options

Other than Dzingel, Dorion has stated that he is always open for trades as well as talks with free agents. The question is what he could possibly do at this point? The Senators have kept as close to last year’s lineup as is possible. The only regulars to their lineup that they departed with were Marc Methot and Viktor Stalberg. They also parted ways with Chris Neil and Chris Kelly who both were not playing regularly for the team. The only addition they have made thus far is for center Nate Thompson.

With so few losses and prospects Colin White and Thomas Chabot set to make the team there weren’t many spots in the lineup to fill. Cody Franson could be signed for defensive depth on the right side. Forwards such as Jaromir Jagr and P.A. Parenteau could be signed to help with the Sens’ scoring woes. However, the fact remains that there simply are not many spots available in the lineup.

Wrap Up

Should the Ottawa Senators sign a player it will be to help fill the void left by Methot’s departure or to help their scoring problems. However, it isn’t completely necessary. Young players such as Chabot and White could help with last year’s problems. The most likely thing Dorion is to do at this point is make a trade. What that could be we can only guess, but if he’s shown us anything over the last year it will be exciting.
