Slovakian defenseman Zdeno Chara played a remarkable 24 seasons in the NHL. In his career, Chara recorded 680 points in 1,680 games.
Of his 24 NHL seasons, four of them were spent with the Ottawa Senators. This past June, it was announced that the former Senator will be part of the Hockey Hall of Fame class of 2025.
Having Chara being inducted into the Hall of Fame allows another former Senator to be remembered forever. However, with Chara now getting the call to the Hall of Fame, it could allow the Senators to consider doing something for Chara for fans to remember him forever.
Chara can get Ring of Honour consideration from Senators with Hall of Fame spot now
Playing four seasons with one team might not be enough for that team to consider retiring one player's jersey number for being a Hall of Fame player, but adding Chara to the Ring of Honour might be something the Senators can consider doing. In the end, Chara had a solid legacy in Ottawa while playing four seasons with the team.
Chara recorded 146 points and +109 rating in 299 games played during his four seasons as a Senator. Chara was solid both offensively and defensively with the Senators, and the Senators made the playoffs all four years that Chara was on the team.
In every season Chara played in Ottawa, his point total was higher in each season. Chara's most points in a season as a Senator was in 2005-06 when he recorded 43 points.
Chara also recorded back-to-back 40 point seasons as a defenseman in the 2003-04 season and 2005-06 season. In both seasons, Chara recorded back-to-back 16-goal seasons. Scoring 16 goals as a defenseman isn't easy to do, but Chara did that in back-to-back seasons in Ottawa.
It was in Ottawa where Chara made the All-Star Game for the first time in his career back in 2003. That was also the same year in which Chara was a major piece to the Senators' President's Trophy winning season. In 2004, Chara finished second in Norris Trophy voting.
The Senators recognizing Chara as a Hall of Fame player with inducting him in the Ring of Honour might be an idea considering that in four seasons with the team, Chara's legacy in Ottawa was a strong one.
Chara is not only one of the best defensemen in NHL history, but also in Senators history.
