After recording three points in 30 games for the Ottawa Senators in the 2023-24 season, Zack MacEwen needed a better 2024-25 season at 28 years old. At the beginning of the season, signs were pointing in the right direction.

In his second game played this season on Oct. 14, MacEwen scored two goals to help give the Senators an 8-7 win against the Los Angeles Kings. It was MacEwen's first two-goal game since March 6, 2020.

After MacEwen's two-goal game, the Senators had hoped his offensive production would continue. Unfortunately, it didn't happen. MacEwen last played an NHL game this season on Nov. 23 before going to the AHL to play with the Belleville Senators. However, since going to the AHL, MacEwen's play has improved, which is needed if he will see NHL time again.

MacEwen's AHL play in 11 games has been solid

After his two-goal game, MacEwen only recorded one assist the rest of the season while playing in 19 NHL games. Since playing in Belleville on Nov. 27, MacEwen has played well.

MacEwen has seven points in 11 games played. Of his seven points, five of them have been goals. MacEwen recorded a two-goal game on Dec. 7 against the Manitoba Moose.

In four of his first six AHL games, MacEwen at least recorded one points. In three of first six AHL games, MacEwen scored a goal. Over the past three AHL games, MacEwen has recorded at least one point.

Against the Toronto Marlies this past Saturday, MacEwen scored a nice goal in the game:

MacEwen's play in the AHL was needed after a rough NHL start this season. In November, MacEwen played in 11 NHL games. MacEwen only played 10 minutes or more in just one of the 11 games. In his final NHL game before going to Belleville, MacEwen played 6:20 of ice time.

MacEwen has another chance in Belleville to produce more offense as Belleville will play the Utica Comets today at 3 p.m. ET.
