What could it take for Senators to trade for David Pastrnak from Bruins?

One name to keep an eye on this Summer is Boston Bruins superstar David Pastrnak. At 28 years old, the superstar forward has recorded three consecutive seasons of 105 points or better.

The Bruins' future looks shaky at the moment with finishing in last place in the Atlantic Division in 2025. With the Bruins potentially going in a new direction, it puts Pastrnak's future with the team in question.

Teams like the Ottawa Senators could seek interest in trading for Pastrnak, but it will cost a lot to get. Pastrnak's value for the Bruins might be too high for a team like the Senators to trade for, but it still could be worth a shot to try and trade for a superstar player.

Senators would have to pay big to get Pastrnak

Even at a cap hit of $11.25 million per year, Pastrnak being under contract until 2031 gives any team a solid window to win with him on the team. The Senators would have to pay up big to receive Pastrnak.

Potential trade idea:

Senators receive- Pastrnak

Bruins receive- Shane Pinto, Drake Batherson, Nikolas Matinpalo, Stephen Halliday, two first-round draft picks and one second-round draft pick

There's no doubt that the Bruins' asking price for Pastrnak will be high. The players listed above could draw interest from the Bruins in order for the Bruins to trade Pastrnak to the Senators.

Pinto is a restricted free agent next season. The 24-year-old finished the 2024-25 season with 37 points and 21 goals. Both stats were career-highs for Pinto in a season. Pinto is destined to only grow his game at his age.

For Batherson, the Bruins can get huge value for their buck. Batherson has recorded three consecutive 60-point seasons for a player making under $5 million. That value would be something the Bruins would love to have for trading away a player like Pastrnak.

At 27 years old, Batherson's 68-point season in the 2024-25 season was not only a personal best, but it was the second most on the Senators roster.

Matinpalo still hasn't had much NHL experience at 26 years old. Matinpalo has recorded four points in 45 career NHL games. In the 2024-25 season, Matinpalo played in 41 games, but did play in all six games in the 2025 playoffs.

Matinpalo is getting more experience after playing in the 4 Nations Face-Off and currently playing in the IIHF World Championship for Finland. Although signing a two-year extension after the playoffs, the Bruins could be interested in a player making under $900,000 for the next two years.

Halliday was Belleville's leading point scorer in the 2024-25 regular season with 51 points in the AHL. The Bruins would want a top prospect if trading away Pastrnak, and Halliday can be that prospect.

Draft picks are often seen in trades involving superstar players. With that said, two first-round draft picks and one second-round draft pick might be a price the Bruins would ask for in return for Pastrnak.

If the Senators are going to want to trade for Pastrnak, they will have to give up a lot for the Bruins. If the value for Pastrnak isn't right, staying away from him might be the best option to not give up good value to a division rival.
