Thomas Chabot having consistency is something the Senators have been missing badly
One defenseman the Ottawa Senators needed to get going this season is Thomas Chabot. Last season while playing 51 games, Chabot under-performed with a 30-point season and having defensive struggles.
More pressure was placed on Chabot this season to help turn the Senators around. At 27 years old and playing healthy, Chabot has certainly been better.
Chabot has played a lot of minutes every game and has helped improve the Senators defense in a huge way. However, along with his defense, Chabot has been able to work his offense back into his game that will help boost the Senators.
Chabot's defense has been big this season, but his offense being back is just as important
One reason Chabot's defense is back is due to his partner being Nick Jensen. The defense pair have been incredible this season with helping block shots, get pucks out, and play a lot of minutes.
Jensen has helped Chabot turn his game around and the Senators need it. Against the Bruins last night, Chabot had two blocked shots and two giveaways with playing just under 24 minutes of ice time. Chabot's defense helped the Senators not allow a single shot on goal by the Bruins in the third period in last night's 3-2 overtime win.
Along with playing excellent defense, Chabot has found his confidence again on the offensive side. Chabot recorded an assist last night on Michael Amadio's goal in the second period that tied the game at two.
Over the past 12 games, Chabot has recorded at least one point in seven of them. Despite the Senators' November sturggles, Chabot has now recorded at least one point in three of the Senators' five games of the month.
Chabot eight points this season is good for the seventh most on the Senators, and his seven assists are the fifth most on the team. With defenseman Jake Sanderson struggling lately, Chabot has lived up to the pressure and has improved big so far this season.
The Senators will continue to rely on Chabot playing a lot of minutes this season, especially in the Senators' next game on Tuesday night against the high powered Toronto Maple Leafs offense. Chabot and his partner Jensen will for sure have their hands full in Toronto with the Maple Leafs coming in hot with winning three consecutive games.
