The Ottawa Senators continue to have spirits riding high before Christmas arrives in four days. After their 3-2 overtime win on Thursday night against the Calgary Flames, the Senators extended their winning streak to a season-high five games.

As the Senators currently have a 17-13-2 record on the season, their critical nine-game road trip is now heading back into Pacific Time as they take on the Vancouver Canucks, and the Senators are eager to avenge a loss against the Canucks.

Senators head to Vancouver to take on Canucks

The Senators travel to Rogers Arena to take on the Canucks with puck drop scheduled for 10 p.m. ET. On Nov. 23, the Canucks defeated the Senators 4-3 in Ottawa.

Thursday night against the Flames was a hard fought game for the Senators. After Ridly Greig scored a shorthanded goal to give the Senators a 2-1 lead in the third period, Jonathan Huberdeau tied the game less than one minute later, but the Senators would only bend and not break.

In overtime, Linus Ullmark made a big save on Huberdeau, then threw a long pass to set up a 2-on-1 for the Senators which resulted in Brady Tkachuk scoring the overtime winner just 55 seconds into overtime.

Ullmark and the Senators remained hot with the win. The Senators continued their hot stretch by improving to 7-1-1 to start December. Ullmark made 29 saves in the win to improve to 8-0-1 in his last nine starts. The Senators remained in the second Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference with the win.

As for the Canucks, they come into tonight's game with a 16-10-6 record. Despite currently holding the second Wild Card spot in the Western Conference, the Canucks have lost five of their last seven games. The most recent game for the Canucks was a 3-1 road loss on Thursday night against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Quinn Hughes leads the Canucks with 37 points and 30 assists. Jake DeBrusk leads the Canucks with 14 goals.

When the Senators and Canucks first played on Nov. 23, Hughes only played 5:12 of ice time after he received a five-minute major penalty in the first period. Even with Hughes out, the Canucks still defeated the Senators.

DeBrusk scored two goals in the game. The Senators trailed 4-1 in the third period before cutting the deficit to 4-3, but it was too little too late.
