The Ottawa Senators won't play their first 2025 preseason game until next Sunday against the Toronto Maple Leafs. However, the two teams competed against each other this afternoon in the Prospects Showdown at Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec.
The Senators earned a 4-3 win against the Maple Leafs to begin the Prospects Showdown. In the win, the Senators had some of their prospects show why they have potential.
Jackson Parsons
This off-season, the Senators needed to make a move to acquire a young goaltender who can play in the AHL with the Belleville Senators with Leevi Merilainen expecting to get more NHL time. To do that, the Senators signed 20-year-old Ottawa native Jackson Parsons.
Parsons showed improvement with the Kitchener Rangers in the OHL last season. Against the Maple Leafs, Parsons was solid despite allowing in three goals. Parsons made solid saves to keep the Senators in the game throughout.

Parsons played the entire games and earned the win with making 27 saves. Parsons showed a solid first impression wearing a Senators jersey for the first time.
Carter Yakemchuk
Last year in the NHL Preseason, Carter Yakemchuk showed why the Senators drafted him seventh overall in the 2024 NHL Draft with having a solid preseason.
While he didn't play an NHL game last season, Yakemchuk is one of the top prospects on the Senators roster. Against the Maple Leafs, Yakemchuk showed why with scoring the game's first goal on a slapshot under three minutes into the game.

Seeing Yakemchuk score quickly into the game is a sight for the Senators and their fans to see that the 19-year-old is getting closer to making his NHL debut.
Yakemchuk would score a second goal during the game to put the Senators up 4-2 after the Maple Leafs cut the Senators lead to 3-2. Yakemchuk's second goal of the game scored in the third period turned out to be the game-winning goal. Along with scoring two goals in the win, Yakemchuk showed tremendous skating throughout.
Stephen Halliday
One of Belleville's top prospects is Stephen Halliday. Last season, Halliday led Belleville with 51 points.
Against the Maple Leafs, Halliday picked up where he left off. With the Senators up 1-0, Halliday scored a first period goal to extend the lead to 2-0.

Halliday has turned into one of the Senators' top prospects with making a 46-point improvement in just one AHL season. Now at 23 years old, Halliday is eager to make his NHL debut this season.
Tyler Boucher
One Senators prospect who needs to show major improvement this season is Tyler Boucher. The former 10th overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft still has yet to play an NHL game.
With being on an expiring contract and having struggles, some may think this season could be Boucher's last chance to show the Senators what he can do. Against the Maple Leafs, Boucher showed progress with scoring a powerplay goal to extend the Senators' lead to 3-0 with a beautiful snipe.

With scoring a goal today, the Senators hope that it can be the start of the 22-year-old showing major progress with his development.
The Senators have one more Prospects Showdown game tomorrow night against the Winnipeg Jets at 7 p.m. ET.
