The Ottawa Senators had to put behind their 3-2 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets last night as they headed to the Steel City to face the Pittsburgh Penguins to conclude a back-to-back.

Heading into Pittsburgh, the Senators were eager to sweep the three-game season series against the Penguins. In what would be a stalemate, a mistake would cost the Senators.

The Penguins defeated the Senators 1-0 in overtime at PPG Paints Arena. With the loss, the Senators fell to 39-28-6 on the season.

Despite the loss, the Senators managed to earn one point to help them in the Eastern Conference standings. The Senators do remain in the first Wild Card spot with now 84 points.

Through 60 minutes, it would be a goaltending duo between Anton Forsberg and Tristan Jarry. Both goaltenders made crucial saves to keep the game scoreless through 60 minutes, but before regulation ended, the Senators made a mistake.

Ridly Greig was called for a hooking penalty on Sidney Crosby with 2.1 seconds remaining in regulation. While the Senators didn't allow a goal in the final seconds of regulation, they would have to kill off 1:58 of the Penguins' powerplay to start overtime.

Overtime ended 1:16 in when Crosby scored the overtime winner past Forsberg to win the game for the Penguins. Despite the loss, Forsberg shined by making 34 saves. Jarry finished the game by recording a 31-save shutout.

With Crosby's winner, the Senators finished March by going 10-3-2. Earning 22 points in the month has helped the Senators be in a playoff position. Now, the Senators will play eight of the last nine games at home.

The Senators will return to action on Tuesday night when they begin April as they host the Buffalo Sabres. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

Despite being the worst team in the Eastern Conference, the Senators have lost all three games against the Sabres this season. The most recent Sabres game was this past Tuesday when the Senators fell 3-2 in Buffalo. In April, the Senators will play eight of their nine games of the month at home.
