After playing for the Manitoba Moose and Belleville Senators in the 2023-24 AHL season, the Ottawa Senators singed Wyatt Bongiovanni to a one-year, two way extension in June 2024.
This season at 25 years old, Bongiovanni needed to show more improvement. In his first 14 AHL games this season, Bongiovanni had scored six goals. Then, Bongiovanni went four consecutive games without scoring a goal.
On Jan. 4 against the Utica Comets, Bongiovanni recorded his first career AHL hat trick. However, that wasn't good enough, because now Bongiovanni is making the Senators take notice of his game with another spectacular performance.
Bongiovanni scores his second hat trick in three games
Against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton penguins yesterday, Bongiovanni would record yet another hat trick. It was the second time in three games where Bongiovanni scored a hat trick. Bongiovanni's hat trick came at a clutch time.
After scoring a goal to tie the game at one and two, Belleville found themselves with the game tied at three in the third period. Belleville would have a powerplay opportunity late in the third period. In the final seconds of the third period, Bongiovanni came through with scoring a powerplay goal to give Belleville a 4-3 lead.
Over the past three games, Bongiovanni has recorded seven points with two hat tricks. An incredible stretch for Bongiovanni.
With his recent three-game stretch, Bongiovanni is now at 12 goals for the season, which is only second behind Angus Crookshank's 13 goals. Bongiovanni is also tied for the fifth most points on Belleville's roster with 16.
While Bongiovanni hasn't played in an NHL game yet, he's making the Senators take notice with recording two hat tricks in a three-game span.
