The Ottawa Senators have had a very wild last four hours, and according to reports, it could get even wilder.

After trading their captain Brady Tkachuk to the Florida Panthers for a package of draft picks. Reports suggest that the Senators are gearing up to take a major swing at Dallas Stars forward Jason Robertson.

According to David Pagnotta of the Fourth Period, the situation remains fluid; however, it sounds like the Senators have their replacement for Tkachuk in their sights and are reportedly willing to acquire him via trade of an offer sheet.

Senators targeting Robertson as Tkachuk's replacement

Robertson does make a lot of sense for the Senators. He brings an offensive spark that this team very badly needs. He is coming off a season where he had 45 goals and 51 assists for 96 points in 82 games. Unlike Tkachuk, he has the ability to stay healthy. Over the last four seasons, he has played in all 82 games. Tkachuk has only done that one time in the last four seasons.

Yes, Robertson doesn't bring the physical edge that Tkachuk does, but that can be addressed with other free agent adds. He did, however, have eight fewer assists than Tkachuk has points.

There are going to be some questions regarding what Robertson could bring out in other teammates. He would be an ideal fit on a line alongside Tim Stutzle and Drake Batherson. That trio instantly becomes a very serious offensive threat. So much so that they all could hit the 100 point mark.

Robertson's time in Dallas looks like it could be coming to an end. His projected contract is likely too much for what the Stars. There has been talk about his asking price being around $10-14 million. If the Senators can get Robertson signed for somewhere in a max deal in the neighbourhood of $11-11.5 million, it will still give them room to get other business done this summer.
