After an intense 8-7 overtime win against the Los Angeles Kings on Monday afternoon, the Senators are back to work. Earning two wins at home early into the season is a great step in the right direction for the Senators.
However, the Senators' opponent tonight, the New Jersey Devils, offers a chance to gain more momentum against a top team in the NHL standings, and the Senators are looking to do something they haven't done since the 2021-22 season.
Senators play at home for third time this season as they to host Devils
The Senators host the Metroplitan Division leading Devils at Canadian Tire Centre with puck drop scheduled at 7 p.m. ET. Tonight is the first of three meetings between the two teams this season. The Senators lost the season series against the Devils last season, and have not defeated the Devils in Ottawa since April 2022.
The Senators have their offense riding hot after an eight-goal explosion against the Kings. Drake Batherson, Josh Norris, Drake Batherson, Tim Stutzle and Brady Tkachuk each recorded a three-point game. Both Stutzle and Tkachuk recorded three assists each in the win. The offense bailed out goaltenders Anton Forsberg and Mads Sogaard after they allowed seven goals combined. Ottawa's offense will need to remain hot against one of the best teams currently in the NHL.
Although the Devils are in first place in the Metropolitan Division with a 4-2-0 record, they may have arrived at the right time for the Senators. The Devils are playing their third game in four days. The Devils are coming off of a 4-2 road loss on Tuesday night against the Carolina Hurricanes.
In a shocking twist, Stefan Noesen and Jesper Bratt lead the Devils with six points each on the season. Although Bratt has six points, he surprisingly has only scored one goal along with Jack Hughes. Paul Cotter surprisingly leads the Devils with four goals this season.
The Senators have another good test for them early in October to make an early statement that they can be viewed as a top team in the Atlantic Division. With the Senators losing their past three games at home against the Devils and being rested with a 2-1-0 record, tonight's game adds more motivation. More pressure is on the Senators with the Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs both winning yesterday. Both teams have six points each in the Atlantic Division with the Senators currently having four points.
