The Ottawa Senators have risen to the occasion with now winning their past six consecutive games to have an 18-13-2 record. The Senators defeated the Vancouver Canucks 5-4 last night in overtime, but have a quick turnaround.
Following their overtime win, the Senators now have to get ready for the Edmonton Oilers. Just like the Canucks last night, the Senators are eager to avenge their loss against the Oilers from November.
Senators head back to Mountain Time to clash with Oilers
The Senators travel to Rogers Place to take on the Oilers in their final game before the Christmas break. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET. On Nov. 19, the Oilers defeated the Senators 5-2 in Ottawa.
Against the Canucks, the Senators came through with a big overtime win. Jake Sanderson's overtime winner 15 seconds into overtime was his first goal in 29 games. Sanderson and Shane Pinto each recorded a three-point game, and goaltender Leevi Merilainen made 21 saves to earn his first NHL win. The win helped the Senators start December off with an 8-1-1 record.
As for the Oilers, they come into tonight's game with a 20-11-2 record, and are hot just like the Senators. The Oilers have won seven of their last eight games, with the most recent being a 3-2 overtime win yesterday against the San Jose Sharks. Both the Oilers and Senators come into tonight with winning their past two games in overtime.
To no surprise, the Oilers' dynamic duo of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are at it again with their talent. Draisaitl leads the Oilers with 24 goals and 51 points, and McDavid leads the Oilers with 33 assists and has 48 points this season. After McDavid and Draisaitl, the next leading scorer on the Oilers is Evan Bouchard with 25 points.
When the Senators played the Oilers last month, McDavid, Draisaitl and Bouchard each recorded three points. The Oilers' offense will always offer as a challenge for any team to play against. With both teams coming into tonight hot, both teams are eager to head into the Christmas break with a win.
