The 2006-07 season was an unforgettable one for Ottawa Senators fans. The club went on a magical run that saw them reach the Stanley Cup Final. While the outcome was hardly the one Sens fans wanted, the run capped off a tremendous era in team history.
And it’s that core which can inspire the 2026-27 squad to make a similar run.
The 2007 club featured Hall of Famer Daniel Alfredsson as the face of the franchise. He had a solid supporting cast in Jason Spezza, Dany Heatley, Wade Redden, and Chris Phillips. The rest of the squad was a collection of gritty, skilled, and some even overlooked players.
The club got a tremendous performance from Ray Emery, while seeing the team’s overall heart just rush to the surface.
That Senators’ team didn’t have the star power that other teams had that season. But it had the right mix of stars, scorers, grinders, and defenders.
That’s what this season’s Senators club must embrace. Everyone has a role. Everyone has a job to do. None is bigger than another. In fact, one player who doesn’t do his job could lead to an overall failure by the club.
It’s like one of those machines in which one component failure could lead to a catastrophic meltdown.
Oh, and don’t forget the coach. The Senators have the sort of coach who can bring everything together in Travis Green.

Senators have to be good to be lucky
There’s always talk about luck in sports. The so-called “puck-luck” is just a result of the randomness embedded in the game.
For instance, some players have puck-luck when they hit the post or the crossbar, and the shot goes in. Others have bad puck-luck when the shot beats the goalie, hits the post, and caroms out.
But you have to be good to get those breaks to go your way. You need to put the puck on net, or else you’ll never have the chance to get some help.
That’s what this is all about.
The Senators need to go out there and make things happen. When they do, well, anything can happen.
Even if it sounds like a cliché, everyone starts the season in first place. So, it’s up to the Sens to hold on to the top spot in the Atlantic Division. With the way this season is shaping up, Ottawa could have as good a chance as any to bring home the bacon.
